The Rossmoor Women’s 18ers Golf Club had their annual Handicap Tournament on three days last month, May 18th, 23rd and 25th. This tournament is one of the two “majors” for the club, and the winner gets her name inscribed on the perpetual trophy and has bragging rights in perpetuity as well.
Thirty players signed up for the event and were matched up into foursomes with similar handicaps for the first round. In a break from tradition, the first two days of play were stroke play and the final day was match play, pairing the four players with the lowest cumulative net scores from the previous rounds into two twosomes to spar for Champion, Runner-Up, third and fourth-place winners.
In the end, Olivia Hsueh emerged as the Champion, winning on hole 18 in a tough match with Lynda Pritchett, who finished as Runner-Up. Third place went to Nancy Park, and fourth place to Chong Hui Harney.
Thanks go to Chris Andres at the pro shop for doing an excellent job managing the event and keeping track of all the scoring and pairings and tee times. Janice Davis, Handicap Chair, and her handicap committee of Peggy Yamada, Pil Choo, Margo Dutton and Claudia Terry came up with the new format for the tournament with Davis and Yamada doing extra work making sure participants understood the rules and received all the pertinent information they needed.
An awards luncheon was held in the Donner Room of the Event Center with Creekside Grill catering the event. Congratulations to Hsueh as the 2017 Handicap Champ.
