Annual Events and Activities

 
Players are notified via Golf Genius emails for all events and activities and must sign-up through this format.

MEET AND GREET/GENERAL MEETING a kick-off to the new Season, a social event held prior to the first Play Day usually in February. An opportunity to meet and mingle with friends and new members.

THREE GENERAL MEETINGS, PLUS A HOLIDAY LUNCHEON are scheduled for members of the Club to socialize, award special event prizes, elect officers, and to carry out any other business requirements not handled by the Niner Board.

THURSDAY PLAY DAYS on the Creekside Golf Course played spring through fall, weather permitting. Prizes are awarded in each of three flights, grouped by handicaps. Sign-up sheets and special events are posted in the Clubroom of the Pro Shop a week in advance.

SPRING FLING an annual tournament combining both 9’ers and 18’ers in a scramble tournament. It includes18 holes of golf at the Dollar Golf Course. This event is hosted alternately by the 9’ers and the 18’ers. A fun day of golf, which includes lunch, golf fashion show, raffle and a chance to mingle with all the women in both clubs

MATCH PLAY a hole-by-hole tournament between two players with similar handicaps. A luncheon for all members is scheduled upon completion of Match Play to congratulate all players involved and to award the winners in each flight and the Match Play Champion.

JAMBOREE is held midsummer, the only Niner Event where men are invited to play as guests. Another popular event sponsored by local businesses, which includes breakfast, contest prizes, lunch and more.

ECLECTIC is played over several designated Thursdays during regular Play Days. The winners are selected by taking the best score on each hole. There is a small fee to cover extra prizes.

TOURNAMENT OF CHAMPIONS is played over three set days. It is played in flights by handicap and the winners will have an opportunity to move on to the regional tournament sponsored by WNHGA, Women’s Nine Hole Golf Association. The player with the lowest gross score becomes the Club’s Champion.

GUEST DAYS held in August. Niners may invite a guest to play in a scramble format. Breakfast, contests, prizes and lunch are included.

HAT AND VISOR DAY is another fun day where all players are encouraged to decorate their hats or visors in their most crazy and creative way. The tournament is typically played around Halloween, with a scramble format. Lunch is included along with prizes for the best hat and more. The Pro Shop makes up the foursomes based on handicaps.

TEAM PLAY takes Rossmoor Niners to compete with other WNHGA Clubs in the area. The Chairwomen of the event will select members to participate in each of the three flights. Information on this event will be posted early in Spring for sign-up and a seminar.

 

Other Information

WNHGA Women’s Nine Hole Golf Association is an organization to which we belong. There are 40 plus Golf Clubs in Northern California that belong to WNHGA. The website www.wnhga.com provides detailed information about the association.

CORENA GREEN Junior Girl’s Classic is an annual tournament for golfers between the ages of 8-17 who compete for prizes and scholarships. The tournament is supported by donations from WNHGA Clubs; the Rossmoor Club raises funds throughout the year to support this tournament.

GHIN Golf Handicap and Information System, a nationally computerized system that updates our golf index score based on the scores we post. The Index Score is then adjusted for course and Tee color played, to give a Course Handicap. It is mandatory that each player post (enter into the computer) all golf scores, according to the rules set by the USGA Golf Handicap System.

MOST IMPROVED PLAYER A trophy is awarded for the most improved player of the year. This is a WNHGA sponsored award and the winner is announced at the annual Holiday Luncheon.

OPEN DAYS and INVITATIONALS Various Clubs throughout the season invite other clubs to play. You may sign up for these events in our area of the pro shop using the white binder entitled “Open Days.” The binder also includes details such as cost, directions and names of those interested in carpooling to the event.

BOARD MEETINGS are held monthly, time and place are announced at the beginning of the new year.
